At the Glendale Chamber, we strive to provide our community with resources for work, play, and community – our summer event, the Metro Mile, took place on July 18th and is the perfect example of how we blend all three. Our title sponsor, (and premier moving and storage company in Denver) Exodus Moving and Storage, is a member of the Chamber of Commerce. This one-mile race through the streets of Glendale benefits the Glendale YMCA and DonorsChoose.org Together, we are putting together an event that is good for the community, great fun, and a chance to network! After the race, participants and spectators will be treated to plenty of food, beer, and music from Jack Hadley – all free to attend. Monday Movie Night at Infinity Park featuring Fast & Furious starts at 8:00 PM and is also free to attend!
The Metro Mile is dedicated to raising money for two tremendous charity organizations: The Glendale YMCA Strong Kids Campaign and Donorchoose.org on behalf of the Lowes Good Neighbor Policy.
All money raised in the annual Glendale YMCA Strong Kids Campaign is used to support the YMCA’s life-changing programs for children, youth, adults, seniors and families in our communities.
Everyone deserves the Y, but many of the children and families most in need of YMCA programs and services cannot pay full program fees.
Last year, our YMCA provided more than million in need based financial assistance.
When communities encounter challenges, they turn to charities like the YMCA with proven track records of problem-solving for help. Since 1859, the YMCA has been there to meet community needs and is committed to being a part of the solution.
The need to belong is one of the fundamental building blocks all children require in order to develop into self-confident young men and women.
YMCA programs like aquatics, childcare, youth sports and resident camping all build confidence and reveal character, develop skills, and infuse core values of
caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
DonorsChoose.org is an online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need.
Here’s how it works: public school teachers from every corner of America post classroom project requests on DonorsChoose.org. Requests range from pencils for a poetry writing unit, to violins for a school recital, to microscope slides for a biology class.
Then, you can browse project requests and give any amount to the one that inspires you. Once a project reaches its funding goal, we deliver the materials to the school.
You’ll get photos of your project taking place, a thank-you letter from the teacher, and a cost report showing how each dollar was spent. If you give over $100, you’ll also receive hand-written thank-you letters from the students.
