The Hilton Garden Inn Denver/Cherry Creek, owned by Stonebridge Companies, opened in 2009 in Glendale’s CitySet. Businesses have come and gone inside CitySet but the Hilton Garden Inn has remained a fixture inside the shopping center. The Hilton Garden Inn completed a massive renovation in 2019 that included remodeling the entire lobby, meeting space, and all 210 rooms.
The Hilton Garden Inn looks for creative ways to separate itself from the typical hotel. For instance, on January 13, they celebrated National Rubber Duckie Day. According to a 1973 Sesame Street calendar, Rubber Duckie’s Birthday is January 13 so around the country it’s National Rubber Ducky Day. A friend of Ernie and Big Bird, Duckie made his debut in a February 1970 episode. “We had 150 rubber ducks in our pool,” said Eric Hautzenrader, General Manager of the Hilton Garden Inn in Glendale. “We tossed them all over the hotel with prizes such as free appetizers, WIFI, breakfast, so people would find them and bring them to the front desk.”
In addition to a non-typical guest stay, the hotel is open to the public for breakfast and dinner with cuisine from a brand new chef. The Hilton Garden Inn also features three meeting rooms. Two ballrooms are 1,300 square feet each and they also have a small boardroom totaling 4,300 total square feet of meeting space. “It is very convenient with a large pre-function area with the patio right outside,” said Irena Riagouzova, Area Director of Sales. “We welcome a lot of corporate and weekend business.” The Hilton Garden Inn provides discounts for Glendale Chamber members.
The Hilton Garden Inn has been a member since it opened in 2009. “The Chamber is supportive of the businesses in Glendale,” said Hautzenrader. “There is a focus of trying to get everyone to be successful. That is an overwhelming want that the Glendale Chamber has.”
Glendale as a whole has changed since the hotel opened its doors. “Back in 2009, rugby was coming into its own,” said Hautzenrader. “Teams coming through [and staying here] has been a nice revenue generator that has continued to progress.” And, the hotel is fortunate to be within a complex such as Glendale CitySet. “I think the CitySet piece and having more restaurants has helped our business as well as the Residence Inn business when you have people that are here for six to eight days and they can come to a place and be comfortable in a hotel not eating the same food day in and day out. And everything is within walking distance.”
