The Staenberg — Loup Jewish Community Center (JCC Denver) recently hired Cathy Sanders as chief development officer and Beth Hornstein as director of development. Together, the new team brings more than 40 years of experience in development and fundraising to the JCC Denver.
“I’m excited to welcome Cathy and Beth to our JCC leadership team, especially during such a pivotal year for the JCC, our 100th anniversary,” said Mike Sophir, JCC Denver’s chief executive officer. “We have a lot of exciting things to come in 2022 and their support will be instrumental in helping us provide engaging opportunities for relationship-building and giving. With Cathy and Beth’s combined experience and connections in the community, I am confident they will play a pivotal role in helping set the JCC up for success in the years to come.”
Sanders has over 20 years of experience in philanthropy, working on behalf of academic medicine, higher education, and hunger and poverty relief. Most recently, Sanders worked for the Central Arkansas Library System as director of resource development. Prior to that she was the executive director of Arkansas Children’s Hospital Foundation, vice president of philanthropy at Heifer International, and worked at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in development, among other significant roles throughout her career.
Sanders has a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and a Masters in Public Administration from Arkansas State University. Cathy is from Little Rock, Arkansas, and moved to Denver for her new role at the JCC Denver. She and her husband have twin boys and are recent empty nesters. Cathy enjoys travel and soccer and is a new fan of the Colorado Rapids.
Hornstein has spent over 20 years in nonprofit development and corporate relations in both Denver and Austin, most recently serving as senior development manager at the American Cancer Society. While in Austin, Beth spent several years working for Shalom Austin and was instrumental in providing fundraising and operational support for their 25-million-dollar Generations Capital Campaign.
Hornstein is active in the Denver community and is passionate about her volunteer efforts as a weekly companion volunteer at Judi’s House for Grieving Children and Families. She graduated from the University of Nebraska with a degree in Hospitality Management and has fond memories from childhood about going to the JCC in Omaha.
