Family Owned & Operated: From left to right, Drake, Lisa, BJ, and Mike Penrod run one of the most successful and well-respected auto collision shops in Colorado.

BJ’s Auto Theft & Collision Repair was started with humble beginnings in 1987. BJ Penrod quit his job in 1987 and walked across the street to purchase a business license and started a mobile auto theft repair business. He told his wife Lisa, who was expecting their first child, what he had done and away they went.

He and his brother would fix steering columns, dashes, and radios at people’s homes. Penrod worked out of his car for six months and then cars were starting to be towed to their home. Finally, they rented their first shop at 6th and Laredo where they remained until 2000.

“We started with a 1,500 square foot shop,” said BJ Penrod, co-owner of BJs Auto Theft and Collision Repair. “We then rented the next unit for another 1,500 and we rented the next unit for another 1,500.” Now, the family owned and operated business has 12,500 square feet at the current location, a former rollerskating rink, where they have been for 21 years. The shop is now run by their son Drake and BJ’s brother Mike.

BJ and Lisa have been together since 1978. “We were married in 1985 and started a family and our business in 1987,” said Lisa Penrod, co-owner of BJs Auto Theft and Collision Repair. “We have been blessed.”

Customer Experience: BJ’s Auto Theft & Collision Repair treats their customers the way you want to be treated.

Due to the rise in the number of auto thefts, BJ’s Auto Theft & Collision has a team of I-Car Certified Technicians who are specialized in repairing virtually any damage to the recovered vehicle. “The biggest thing right now is that auto theft is out of control,” said BJ Penrod.” We are doing 25+ cars per week. They are stealing Chevy trucks, Kias, Ford and Dodge pickups. These particular vehicles are easy to steal right now.”

BJ’s Auto Theft & Collision Repair understands how traumatic this experience can be and they will take the time to go over your concerns regarding the damages done to your property and make it a positive experience.

“We separate ourselves by our customer service,” said BJ Penrod. “You are just a number at the big corporations. Customers that come to us have said you get more personal service. We have a good reputation because we have been doing this for 34 years.” Their team specializes in many different types of vehicles, and since they work on a wider variety of vehicles than their dealer counterparts, their overall expertise is greater.

Speaking of a good experience, Penrod’s experience with the Greater Glendale Chamber of Commerce has been positive. “I joined the Chamber to meet other people that are successful like we are,” said BJ Penrod. “The Glendale Chamber has been really good. What I like about the Glendale Chamber is that the people are real. We’ve been in other chambers where people talk but they can’t walk the walk. Why I like the Glendale Chamber is that the people are down to Earth and friendly and if you do business with them, they do what they say they will do and they do a good job.”

Penrod has been able to weather the Covid storm after an initial halt in business. “We were very blessed to be able to keep all of our employees through these hard times,” said BJ Penrod. “We were able to get the PPP money which helped. When it [Covid] first started, our business literally stopped because nobody was driving.”

Now, BJ’s Auto Theft & Collision Repair is repairing 90 cars per week and back on track. They are located at 7051 E. 56th Ave. in Commerce City. For more information, call 303-227-1222 or visit www.bjsautotheftrepair.com.
