A Neighborhood Restaurant With Something For Everyone

Charcoal Bistro is a neighborhood restaurant with something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for a perfect weekend brunch to enjoy the lazy days of summer, a family place for hectic after school dinners or a romantic date night Charcoal Bistro has the menu selections and atmosphere that will keep you coming back again and again.

Charcoal Bistro is located at 1028 South Gaylord, in the heart of the historic Old South Gaylord Street shopping and entertainment district. General Manager Matthew DeGennaro says, “Charcoal Bistro is seasonal and chef driven. We stay away from precooked food always. While we serve burgers, our focus also is on creative menu items like bacon dates with pistachio crumbs and grape reduction or seafood bouillabaisse with scallop, shrimp, calamari, mussels in a lemongrass ginger broth. And we’re a neighborhood restaurant where you can get a salad and a glass of wine and also enjoy a full meal.”

DeGennaro says Charcoal Bistro has seen tremendous success with its monthly Vegan Dining Series Program. He notes the August Vegan Dinner is Wednesday, August 7. “The trend towards healthier options is something you will see more and more with Charcoal Bistro,” DeGennaro notes. “Indeed, we serve vegan dishes every day.”

The restaurant prides itself on its creative and healthy menu along with its casual, relaxed atmosphere. DeGennaro notes, “We are not trying to be a burger and TV dominated restaurant. Our customers compliment us that they can actually engage in conversation without shouting.” Charcoal Bistro boasts a diverse clientele. “A lot of Wash Park neighbors walk to the restaurant,” DeGennaro says. “You will see families, business meetings, celebrations and a lot of guests on first dates. On the other hand, we have hosted diplomats from around the world.”

You can also schedule your charitable or business event, showers, graduations, anniversaries and life’s celebrations.

Charcoal Bistro used to have a companion restaurant when the Charcoal Restaurant opened in 2012 in the Golden Triangle. DeGennaro explains they made the decision to o

pen a smaller restaurant that served a chef driven menu featuring healthier options like their vegan cashew pesto linguine with seasonal vegetables while also offering favorites like buttermilk fried chicken with collards and mac ‘n’ cheese and ginger soy glazed salmon with lemon couscous and grilled asparagus.

The South Gaylord location was just what they were looking for. The building is unique. DeGennaro notes it’s one of the oldest buildings on the block. He says it used to be a movie theater and you can still see the projection booth. “We preserved the original brick walls and added our own touches to make a unique atmosphere.”

DeGennaro compliments the Greater Glendale Chamber of Commerce as a great way to network and have fun at the same time.

Charcoal Bistro offers half-priced wines by the glass on Tuesdays (with the purchase of an entrée), Happy Hour every day from 4-6 p.m. at the bar and all day Wednesday. Their brunch, Saturday and Sundays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. features bottomless mimosas and everything from the healthy Mediterranean Breakfast to a guest favorite Chicken Fried Steak.
