Dr. Melissa Schiefer opened her Chiropractic and Acupuncture business, First Step, in February 2018. One of her first orders of business was to join the Glendale Chamber. “I joined the chamber because we are from Michigan and I thought it would be a good way to meet other business owners and get to know the area,” said Schiefer.
In fact, Schiefer is also helping launch the new young professional network for the Chamber. “I mostly want to get people my age who have the same questions and are confused about the same things and get us together to help support each other,” said Schiefer.” “We want speakers to come in and help guide us and teach us what they did wrong so we can learn from it.”
Schiefer, a young professional herself, always knew she wanted to help people and do something in the Healthcare field. It wasn’t until after she graduated from Central Michigan University with an undergraduate degree that she found herself choosing Chiropractic for her Medical Education.
She became interested in natural health and wellness and found a passion for something she did not expect to find. As she went through school her passion continued to grow as she discovered how chiropractic could help children and expecting mothers.
Schiefer’s business, located in Cherry Creek, is First Step specializing in helping pregnant women with chiropractic care. Chiropractic care for children begins with the mother and her prenatal care and experiences. Prenatal chiropractic care can help to maintain proper alignment so that her body and nervous system are functioning to their fullest potential keeping her and her developing baby in a state of ease.
Chiropractic treatment helps to keep the pelvis in alignment, her muscles and ligaments in a relaxed state and ensures that her baby has plenty of room
to grow. “Chiropractic is more than just pain,” said Schiefer. “We keep the nervous system functioning properly because the spine is aligned so you can heal the way you can heal and your body can do what it needs to do.” Regular adjustments throughout your pregnancy have also been shown to help achieve a more natural and smooth labor and delivery.
Delivery can be a difficult time for both the mother and baby and puts a lot of stress on both of their bodies, it may be the most traumatic event a person will experience, especially with the higher rates of c-sections and increased poor infant health. This is another reason why it is important to have both you and your baby checked following delivery as soon as you are able.
The birth process is a very common cause of misalignment, especially with a birth process that resulted in many interventions. Schiefer is trained to detect and remove these misalignments, and in doing so will help to ensure that ill health does not follow for your newborn baby.
Schiefer will also soon be on call at the Hygge Birth Center, a full scope birthing center in Lowry, opening August 6, 2018. Visit www.hyggebirthandbabydenver.com for more information.
Schiefer and her husband Josh are proud to call the city of Glendale their home. They moved to Glendale after graduating from National University of Health Sciences with her Doctorate of Chiropractic. In their spare time they love to hike and be outdoors as much as possible, listen to jazz, and watch the Detroit Red Wings play.
