Westerra has been selected for Newsweek’s “Best Regional Credit Unions” annual list. This list honors financial institutions that support members, support local initiatives, and rank high on several criteria points.

Newsweek’s annual list applauds regional banks and credit unions for “playing a pivotal role in the financial fabric of communities” through deep roots, ability to understand the unique needs of the people they serve, and active contributions to local initiatives.

Westerra is one of only five Colorado-based financial institutions selected for this prestigious list and was ranked in the top 4 of those selected for the honor. This detail, combined with the purpose of this list, is an acknowledgement of how Westerra is committed to its members and community by focusing on meaningful relationships, providing products and services that help members meet their financial goals, and positively impacting lives through financial education.

“We are honored to receive this recognition from Newsweek,” said Steve Schmidle, President & CEO for Westerra Credit Union. “As we approach our 90th anniversary, we continue to cultivate trust in our community and play an integral part in many individuals’ financial journeys. This list is the embodiment of our legacy and our mission: We exist to teach one another to prosper.”

The “2024 America’s Best Regional Banks and Credit Unions List” was created through a study conducted in partnership with Plant-A Insights Group and Newsweek, which analyzed 9,440 institutions, regional banks, and credit unions in the United States in terms of profitability, financial relevance, risk exposures to financial uncertainties, and overall health and stability. Results from a large-scale, independent customer survey of 35,000 U.S. citizens were also taken into consideration.
