The Vitulli family

Pie Society Pizza is an independent, neighborhood pizzeria owned and operated by Colorado and Chicago natives, Paul and Stephanie Vitulli. Every day, you’ll find Pie Society making fresh dough and savory sauces for their made-to-order pies. Locals claim they have the best pizza around. Pie Society also has calzones, sandwiches, salads, wings, gluten-free and vegan options — all handcrafted.

The Vitullis purchased Pie Society in Glendale three years ago and kept the name. They decided to keep the name because of the loyal customer base and strong reviews. In fact, that same base and solid reviews has them looking at a second location, possibly in Aurora, where commercial real estate is competitively priced. Vitulli has dreams of having an Italian deli one day and the 400 square foot Glendale location does not lend itself to having enough counter space. “I can’t stay stagnant,” said Paul Vitulli. “I’m driven to grow the business and do as much as I possibly can in my waking hours.”

Growing up with three younger brothers in the Chicagoland area, Paul Vitulli had what he calls a typical Italian upbringing where food and hard work was the cornerstone. “Food was very important,” Vitulli said. “Good food was the focal point of my family. I had pasta every day of my life for the first 19 years of my life. My love of food comes from my mother.” The Vitulli family had three things that were important in life: a good education (his parents sent them to Catholic school), paying the mortgage, and good food. They would buy fresh produce every week and make homemade dishes every night.

Stephanie is a baker by trade and is a middle school drama teacher in Highlands Ranch. They both share a love of good food and are in harmony with their decision to jump into this adventure. “We got into this to work for ourselves, make awesome food, and have control over that,” said Vitulli.” Vitulli had a secure job with Iron Mountain, the document storage and shredding company with a location in Denver. But after his father passed away the  previous year, he felt it was time to pursue his dream.

So, after looking at a variety of other pizza parlors, Pie Society in Glendale came on the market as an affordable option for the Vitullis. The stars aligned and they jumped in with both feet. And now, they have joined the Greater Glendale Chamber of Commerce to further cement their standing in the community. “Due to the current conditions we are in, I felt now was the right time [to join the Chamber] to help us grow,” said Vitulli. “I’m all about taking care of the community and helping the micro community. Having that mentality of supporting the micro economy, ripples out positively financially throughout the community.”

The Vitulli family cannot run this thriving pizzeria alone. They have a staff that makes the business run on all cylinders. “We are so grateful for our staff,” said Vitulli. “They are the best. Without them we wouldn’t be as successful as we are. They are family.”

Pie Society celebrated their three-year anniversary on August 23, 2020, and are located at 4615 E. Mississippi Ave. in Glendale.
