Team Effort: Volunteers help with the Feed the Homeless event in November 2017. Shotgun Willie’s is moving the event to March 10, 2019, indicating that there is still a great need even after the holidays are over.

Shotgun Willie’s and members of the Greater Glendale Chamber of Commerce are once again partnering to feed and clothe the homeless. This time, it will have the event in the Shotgun Willie’s parking lot on Sunday, March 10, 2019, rather than around Thanksgiving time. The thought process is that the homeless are still hungry in March and having the event four months after the usual time would allow for less competition amongst charities and serve a greater good. The need is still there even after the holidays are over.

The event will feature a menu of spaghetti, garlic bread, salad, dessert, and soft drinks rather than the traditional turkey and stuffing. Glendale Chamber members Bull & Bush Brewery and Old Chicago are helping with the food, and a donation box for clothes, socks, toiletries, warm jackets, and blankets are set up at Shotgun Willie’s and the adjacent sister company SmokinGun. The community is encouraged to donate clothes either the day of the event or prior to. Shotgun Willie’s is offering free cover when you drop off items. At SmokinGun people who donate are able to get $6 Full gram joints.

“We are proud to once again give back to the community,” said Debbie Matthews, owner of Shotgun Willie’s and Chamber board member. “Our staff works hard putting this together and we appreciate the support of Chamber members to assist with this endeavor.”

Shotgun Willie’s is seeking volunteers to help set up, serve and tear down the day of the event. Set up will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the event should wind down around 3:30 p.m.. Shotgun Willie’s also needs donations of additional food, drinks, plates, utensils, etc. as well as monetary donations to help pay for the buses (that shuttle homeless from shelters to Shotgun Willie’s parking lot) and rental equipment such as tent, tables, chairs, etc.

Other businesses are encouraged to set up their own donation center for blankets, clothes, etc. and drop off the items at Shotgun’s the day before or the day of.
